Frontières

Society/Drama, Burkina Faso/France 2017

Adjara, Emma, and Sali embark on a perilous journey to Lagos, crossing borders and encountering various obstacles along the way. Despite car failures, roadblocks, and thefts, the biggest threat they face is the pervasive corruption, gender-based violence, and trafficking at the border crossings. To survive, the three women band together and rely on each other for support. Director Apolline Traoré highlights the dangers of crossing West African borders, which are supposed to allow free movement of people and goods according to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). However, the reality is that these borders pose significant risks, particularly for women.
